Stop Giving Your Power Away
Some of the subtle ways you give it away and 5 ways to call it back
I want to share something with you that you never learned in school and something your parents probably never taught you either; yet it is the most important knowledge you could ever gain. Your energy* is your super power. Yes, you have a super power and it’s something you’re giving away all the time if you haven’t learned what it is or how to use and protect it. So, first let me clarify what your energy is.
*Your Energy = Your Thoughts, Attention, Focus, and Emotions
So how are your emotions and energy a power exactly? Well, when managed and used correctly, it’s your tool for creation aka manifestation. Each of us have the power to create with our energy - you’re already doing this automatically, but some people actively practice managing their energy and emotions in more constructive ways. Everything in life is a manifestation - not just the supernatural, amazing things.
While your energy and manifestation is a very complex topic, I want to share a few basics for those that haven’t learned how to harness their power yet, along with some tips for calling your energy back because there are so many things fighting for your attention every day.
First some ground rules.
Rule #1
You are a soul in a human body that is made up of energy. I use the words energy, frequency, and vibration interchangeably throughout my posts but they are all essentially the same thing and defined by your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. You will never be able to stop offering a vibration - you can only learn how to manage it.
Rule #2
You co-create your own reality with your energy. When you can take responsibility for everything you’ve created - the good, the bad, the ugly, the unpleasant, the job you hate, the relationships you attract - then you are ready to let go of the victim mentality and ready to own your power.
Rule # 3
Everything is temporary and changeable. When you don’t like something you have the power to change it - because it’s just energy. Every situation you don’t like is just a result of past energy that has flowed. Your power to change anything is always in the present moment. How empowering is that?
Rule # 4
Everyone is responsible for their own energy. You have no power or control over what someone else is doing. The less you can focus on what someone else is doing, the better off you will be. However, your energy is powerful enough to influence how other people behave toward you. To shift energy, always focus on your own energy.
Rule # 5
You are not a sole-creator. We are all connected and we are each co-creating our individual realities as much as we are contributing and creating to a collective reality.
Keep in mind, this power you’re now aware of is a big responsibility that takes learning and practice, but with practice and intention come big rewards. Whatever you can imagine, you can create. So why would you be sloppy or lazy about where you place your energy? Below is a frequency chart that maps out the different levels of emotion and vibration that you may be offering at any point in time - #1 being the highest level of consciousness.
Now let me break down a few of the subtle things you may be giving your power to every day.
The News - Energy Leak #1
I’m not saying you shouldn’t be aware of what’s going on in the world but to watch the news and let it control your emotions is you giving your power away. The news is designed to control your power and suck you in. The media is actually more aware of your power than you are and they aren’t just grabbing yours - they are taking yours and multiplying that power with everyone else that tunes in. So think of it this way, you can keep contributing to a world you don’t want or you can call your attention back and start creating one you do like.
Social Media - Energy Leak # 2
Just like the news, social media is designed as a loop. It’s addictive and it’s sucking your time and attention. If you’re a content-consumer, scrolling endlessly can pull your energy into lower frequencies of self-doubt, anxiety, and comparison or just a general lack of focus on your own life. If you’re a content-creator, you might feel an endless pressure to keep up with the pace of what other people are doing or compare your work to other people because content is being produced 24/7. None of that is being in your own energy and power. It’s ok to use it - just be mindful of how it impacts your energy.
Your Crush - Energy Leak # 3
I think we can all relate to getting so wrapped up in liking or having a crush on someone to the point where we can’t focus on much else. If you start to get anxiety about them calling, what they are doing or not doing - that’s a good indicator that you’ve given your power away. If you’re in a relationship - just insert girlfriend/boyfriend or husband/wife here.
Focusing on the parts of your life you don’t like - Energy Leak # 4
Anything that you’re currently living is a result of past energy flowed and the more you focus on the parts you don’t like, the more you will keep creating the same. So if you don’t like something, you have the power to pull your attention back and change it. Everything is temporary and changeable, remember Rule #3? The fastest way to change it is to stop talking about it. Start focusing on the aspects of your life that you do like, and the things that are going well. Use the contrast of the situation that isn’t pleasing to you to clarify and define exactly what you do want. Then start practicing the feeling of what you do want. Talk about that and believe it already exists.
These are just a few example of where you can easily give your power away. If you haven’t been taught to be in your own body and energy, it might be hard to detect when you’ve given it away. Start paying attention to the sensations and feelings in your body. Anxiety is one of the sensations, and a good indicator that you’re placing your attention on the wrong things.
Here are a few ways to call your energy back.
Ok, so now let’s say you’ve realized you’ve given your power away on any given day. You got caught up in the latest catastrophe on the news, you’re really upset by something that happened at work, or you’re a bundle of anxiety because you haven’t heard from your crush. It’s time to detach, stop the momentum of the current vibration you’re emitting, and bring yourself back into alignment.
Take a Bath
Take a hot salt bath. It will help you settle and ground your energy.
Read a Book
Put your phone away, take a bath and read a book before bed. This is an elite combo. I did it last night and woke up so refreshed. It helps you disconnect from the world and come back to yourself.
Go have fun
Go do something that makes you forget to check your phone. This is why I share the importance of having hobbies in many of my posts. When you’re truly engaged in something you love doing and you’re having fun - you’ve called your power back.
Make a cup of tea
Sitting with yourself isn’t an easy task, especially when you’re unnerved, so here’s a little challenge. The minute you feel like you’ve given your power away and want to take action to fix something that you don’t like or isn’t working, make a cup of tea and sit down at home. Sit with yourself for 20 or 30 minutes. Ground yourself. Call your energy back before you jump into action.
Meditate
This is another challenge if you don’t have a meditation practice yet. When you sit with a cup of tea or meditate for 10-20 minutes, you not only ground your energy but you can tune out the noise of the world and tune into your inner voice and intuition. Your intuition is another super power I’ve talked about in many other posts that you can learn to harness and use for every aspect of your life. It will always guide you on the best course of action to take.
On the days I engage in any of the activities with the intention of grounding myself and hearing my inner voice, my flow is 1000% better. When you’re in your own flow it feels so good. Your timing is good, the people you interact with are fun, and things just work out for you. On Friday afternoon, I was at home with a few errands in mind that I wanted to run. I also had a tennis lesson booked for 5pm. Since I was home I decided to do a short meditation for 12 minutes before going to run an errand. As I was walking out the door, I noticed the time was 2:45. That’s when the thought came through, Why rush around? Just relax at home before tennis for a bit and you can do the errand later. So, I listened to that and headed back into the house. Not even 2-3 minutes later I got a text from my tennis coach letting me know I could come at 4:20pm if I wanted. Coincidence? Not at all. It was me being relaxed enough and tuned into that energy so I could receive it. So I went to play tennis at 4:20pm and did my errand after :)
