I was visiting my parents last weekend and I had a pair of white shorts on. My mom noticed my legs and wanted to know what I was using for body care because my skin was so soft. I was so glad she asked because I almost thought my silky smooth skin was just a figment of my imagination - so I eagerly shared everything I’ve been using and want to share them with you too.
What goes on your skin is absorbed into your body and bloodstream so if you’re using products with a bunch of chemicals, it’s ultimately contributing to your body’s toxic load. It’s something I became more mindful of when I wanted to clear my acne (I shared how I cleared it very recently in another post) but of course the products I choose to use is connected to my health and energy as a whole.
Chemicals in skincare can be linked to cancer, problems related to the endocrine system like reproductive issues and hormones, and a whole bunch of other things. More than that, it affects your frequency. Some of my favorite places to shop are The Detox Market, Credo Beauty, and natural grocery stores because they do a lot of the discovery work for you - although it’s still really important to be mindful of ingredient labels. One of the ingredients I avoid at all costs is perfume and synthetic fragrance because it’s an endocrine disruptor - and girls, isn’t PMS hard enough? It doesn’t just affect women though- fragrance also lowers testosterone in men.
While I started this newsletter with the intention of focusing on body care essentials, I’ve added in my face favorites for full skin-confidence this summer. Oh, and everything is linked for you - just click on each product name.
Body Care
Lymphatic Dry Brushing
Lymphatic massages are amazing but for daily maintenance I like to exfoliate with a dry brush. It’s not necessarily something I remember to do everyday, but I’ve been making it more of a habit before I shower in the morning. It exfoliates your skin, increases blood flow, and moves the lymphatic system (which is responsible for filtering out and letting go of toxins). It can even help minimize cellulite - and for the record cellulite isn’t always detectable - I was told I have Stage One in a lymphatic massage last week, so it’s important preventative maintenance.
Nécessaire Fragrance-Free Body Wash
This body wash uses facial grade ingredients like Niacinimide in their body products. I’m very, very impressed with this wash. The only thing that tripped me up is that the washes with fragrance do unfortunately use some synthetic forms. I had to email the company and ask for specifics because the list on the bottle doesn’t make it super clear - so skip the scented versions and just opt for fragrance-free.
Nécessaire Fragrance-Free Body Lotion
I’m obsessed with this lotion but also the packaging for this. It comes in a large bottle with a pump and the lotion is super thick. It also contains Niacinimide, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omegas, Glycerin, and Peptides. All extremely nourishing for the skin. It’s a 10/10 product and if you only try one product from this list for soft skin - it’s this one.
I’ve loved this body scrub for a long time. It smells so good and makes your skin so bright and smooth. I use it 1-2x a week especially in the summer. Since it contains Himalayan pink salt I think of it as an energy cleanse too (a pink salt rinse in the shower is very cleansing for your energy field).
Face Care
Heritage Store Rose Water + Glycerin Spray
This is the product I’m most excited about right now. It’s also the newest in my routine but it has transformed my skin. I’ve used other rose waters but this one contains glycerin - a humectant that draws in moisture from either your skin or the environment. It instantly makes your skin look more hydrated and dewy. The Rose water itself carries a high vibration and feels uplifting.
How I use it: I use this as a toner, spraying it on my skin after cleansing. Then I add on my moisturizer, face oil, and sunscreen. It can also be used throughout the day over makeup just to refresh your skin.
Angela Caglia Souffle Moisturizer
This has been my go-to face cream for a couple of years now - ever since I discovered it at Violet Grey. Most of the ingredients are organic and it’s 100% fragrance free.
This is the oil I add over the Angela Caglia Moisturizer. I also just trust Miranda Kerr’s full line of organic products - because have you seen her skin at 42 with 4 kids? She looks amazing.
Kora Organics Silky SPF Sundrops SPF 30
This sunscreen comes in a little dropper bottle making it easy to apply a small dose to your face and it just gives your skin an extra summer glow - while protecting your skin from too much sun exposure.
How I use it: Use this over your serum as the last step in your skincare routine before you put on any tints or makeup. It gives a little extra glow and protects your skin from too much sun exposure.
