I haven’t sent out a Cool. Healthy. Chic. newsletter in a while because well, I wasn't feeling very cool or chic lately. I’m what I like to think of as in-between seasons. My old routines aren’t really resonating, but new stuff hasn’t quite fallen into place. The weather is shifting and I’m ready for new clothes but I’m just starting the research of trying things on and figuring out what I like/don’t like. I’ve cleaned out my closet and got a new computer (letting go of the old to make space for the new) but more than that I’d say I’ve been deep in the trenches of getting really clear on what I want next and doing the inner-work to level up - which means any energy or beliefs I needed to shift have had to come up and life just hasn’t felt very light lately. Usually I can shift out of a low funk in 24-48 hours and it’s so interesting to actually be so keenly aware that this is just a season I’m in. But by last week, I was so frustrated and when I’m feeling low, anxious, aggravated, or a little insecure, I know it’s time to double-down on the self-love - accepting where I am and continuing to do my best.
I will say as I write this (I’ve let it sit in drafts for awhile), I’m starting to see the light and the results of all the work I’ve been putting in; getting excited for what’s to come. So I wanted to share the grounding practices and tools that have supported me during this transition period. It has all been a reminder to myself that just before you level up and invite a whole lot of new energy in, you might feel like you took a few steps back and face some old fears, challenges and beliefs. It’s a part of the process and I can’t complain because it’s the growth and change I’ve asked for. You can’t usually get from point A to point B without a little discomfort. So here’s how I’ve been grounding my energy and getting back to center along with just continually reminding myself that this is a process and *things will fall into place once again*.
Foot Baths
Salt baths are one of the best ways to cleanse and clear your energy. If I don’t feel like doing a full bath, I’ll just do a foot bath which is perfect for grounding the root chakra - the energy center that represents safety and security at the base of your spine. It represents your ‘roots’ and stability. I incorporate these baths into my nightly routine with a face mask and maybe listening to something on YouTube. I pick up any epsom or magnesium salts from the grocery store. I just make sure they don’t have synthetic fragrance.
Reading
I personally think reading is one of the most grounding activities you could do. It keeps your mind where you are. I love having a book with me wherever I am. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I’ll sit in the grass for a little bit in the afternoon and read - especially on days I’ve felt anxious or low. The sun and grass will do wonders for you.
Morning Meditations
I’ve really gotten back into a consistent morning mediation practice and I love it. Something I’ve added at the end of them is reminding myself that I am whole and everything I need is God within me. Then I visualize filling myself up with love, joy, peace, prosperity and abundance before I start my day.
Massage
Earlier this week I was feeling so tense and I finally remembered that massages exist. I am so glad I followed my impulse to book this on Monday night because it completely shifted everything for me. It helped me relax but also loosened up my energy (probably all that energy I had been shifting over the last month). Whenever I go for a massage I set an intention of what I want to focus my mind on so it doesn’t wander or at least pick an affirmation to repeat. I think massages are one of the best times to focus your thoughts and drop into your heart with all the feelings you love that you want to create in your life.
Feeling State Meditations
Speaking of dropping into your heart - this can be much harder to do when you aren’t feeling so positive, so I actually started a note in my phone recently of all the feelings I love and I add on to it when I think of new ones. Then when I’m feeling better and ready to meditate with the intention of manifesting, I can refer to any of these feelings to focus my heart on. I’ve been finding it very helpful and it is actually really fun to think of all the various feelings that are so satisfying in life. It reminds me of all the things I have to look forward to as well.
I noted feelings like ‘getting my car back from service and how fresh it feels’, ‘being kissed on the forehead’, ‘sleeping in crisp clean sheets’, ‘being on a tennis court’, ‘the feeling after finishing a pilates class’, ‘laying in the sun on a 70F day’, ‘arriving in a new city and walking around exploring the shops and cafes’, ‘walking out of a store with shopping bags excited about what I bought’, ‘when someone tells me that they love what I write or shared’, ‘a man listening to a problem and immediately wanting to take action to solve it and help me’, and so many more. I also think of specific times and examples of when I felt that way because it helps you really feel it from your heart.
AND one more thing - I shared this on instagram stories a couple of weeks ago and I think a lot of people resonated - if you’re ever having a really hard day or feeling a little hopeless just ask yourself 'can I get through today?’ Most of us get way too ahead of ourselves. Whenever I ask myself that question the answer is usually yes - and then I do whatever I can to make myself comfortable or feel a little better (like laying in the grass, getting a massage, or eating a good meal). Then after sleeping it off everything always feels a lot better. PS. everything can change in a day!
If you’re in one of these seasons right now I hope some of these tools help.
Happy Spring! <3
